Medieval Days at the Estonian Health Museum: Come and Witness a Public Dissection!
From July 11–13, Medieval Days will take place in Tallinn’s Old Town. As part of Medieval Days, the Estonian Health Museum invites you to explore the inner workings of the human body and gain new insights into the history of medicine at the science show ‘Public Dissection’.
On Saturday, July 12 at 3 p.m., the museum will host an English-language performance of the science show ‘Public Dissection’.
Public dissections became popular in medieval Europe — they offered audiences a rare chance to peek inside the human body and took medical science to a new level.
In the first part of the science show, we will recall how scholars of the past understood the human body and its functions, and take a look at early anatomical drawings.
In the second part, we will use our teaching dummy Markus and plastinates — real preserved organs from the museum’s collection. We will examine the shapes and structures of internal organs, what they do, and why they are needed.
A pinch of humor, plenty of fascinating stories, and new knowledge — that’s ‘Public Dissection’ at the Estonian Health Museum!
