SA Eesti Tervishoiu Muuseum adopted the name Estonian Health Museum as a trademark

PRESS RELEASE
11 November 2020

SA Eesti Tervishoiu Muuseum (the Estonian Health Care Museum Foundation) started using the name Estonian Health Museum as a trademark from November. The new name of the museum better characterises the museum and its exhibitions that deal with health more broadly than just from a health care point of view.

The renewal of the trademark was necessitated by the need to better align the name and content of the museum. Over the years, new themes have been added to the museum’s exhibits and educational programmes that do not focus only on health care. The new name brings more focus to the broader context of being human, including the structure and functioning of the human body, the human lifespan, physical and mental health, and making responsible and informed choices in maintaining one’s health. The new name will also be shorter and clearer for visitors.

‘We have been discussing specifying the name of the museum for a long time. Our mission is to unfold the beauty and pain of being human. For many, health care is largely associated with medicine, but our goal is to speak to people more broadly. We give them food for thought on how to take better care of themselves and thereby be happier and healthier,’ says Kadri Rannala, Director of the Estonian Health Museum.

The popular permanent exhibition A Heart to Heart About Your Body of the Estonian Health Museum runs through two houses, thoroughly introducing the anatomy and physiology of the human body, as well as several other areas closely related to our body and health – birth, nutrition, sexuality, addictions, aging, and death. The Health Museum tells us how powerful and wonderful the human body is and what each of us can do to improve our health and well-being. Every year, the annual exhibitions offer excitement and new knowledge. In the spring of 2021, an exhibition on happiness, mental health, and balance in life will open at the Health Museum.

Along with the museum’s trademark, the website will also be renewed (tervisemuuseum.ee). E- mail addresses will also have the same domain. The museum’s name, logo, and contact
information will be constantly updated in various environments. The name of the museum is Eesti Tervisemuuseum in Estonian and Эстонский музей здоровья in Russian. The legal name of the museum, SA Eesti Tervishoiu Muuseum, remains unchanged.

The Estonian Health Care Museum was founded in Tartu in 1924 by the Union of the Medical Societies of Estonia. The museum was re-established in 1980 in Tallinn under the name of the Health Museum of the Centre of Sanitary Education of the Republic. The renovated and modern Estonian Health Museum is located in the Old Town of Tallinn at 30 Lai Street.
